Asynchronous work

Asynchronous work is a form of collaboration that doesn't require people to participate in real-time.

Real-time communication can take various forms. It can happen in in-person meetings, via phone calls, in videoconferences or as live chat.

While these "synchronous" communication styles have their advantages, they also have clear limitations and high demands. These demands tend to negate many of the advantages and freedoms offered by Remote Work.

Asynchronous work leads to increased transparency:

"The big transition with a distributed workforce is going from synchronous to asynchronous collaboration. Not only do we not have to be in the same spot to work together, we also don't have to work at the same time to work together." (Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson, Remote)
