Stoicism

Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy focused on understanding ourselves, the world, and our relationships with others. Founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens around 301 BC, the school takes its name from the painted porch (“stoa poikile”) where Zeno lectured. Stoicism later gained prominence in ancient Rome, where it thrived long after the original Greek school faded.
